Suunto Core All Black Manual Dansk
In 1933, the company’s founder, Tuomas Vohlonen, an engineer and surveyor by profession, applied for a patent for a unique method of manufacturing a lightweight compass case made entirely of celluloid filled with liquid and allowing the magnetic needle to be protected from shock and wear during active traffic .
In 1935, Vohlonen was granted a patent for his design, which went into serial production a year later as a wrist compass M-311. It was not the first portable, fluid-filled compass, but Vöhlönen’s design was compact and light enough to allow it to be worn on the wrist.
During the Second World War, Suunto presents a compact liquid compass with a sighting device – model M / 40, designed for artillery officers and other users who need a high-precision instrument for measuring azimuth. After the Second World War, the company developed rapidly, supplying compasses and other navigational tools for both civil and military markets.
After the death of Tuomas Wohlonen, in 1939, his wife, Elli Vokhlonen, ran the company until 1952.
In 1996, Suunto Oy acquired Recta SA, a Swiss manufacturer of compasses. In 1999, Suunto Oy was acquired by Amer Sports Group, which currently owns both companies.
